Gary D. Marx, the longtime director of communications at AASA, the School Superintendents Association, has died. He was 80.

Marx worked at the organization from 1979 to 1998. Before taking on that position, he had worked in radio and television news and was the communications director for the Westside Community schools in Omaha, Neb., and the Jefferson County schools outside Denver.

He was also the author of a number of books including Twenty-One Trends for the 21st Century: Out of the Trenches and into the Future, published by 91ÖÆƬ³§ÊÓƵ Week Press.

Late in his career, Marx worked as a consultant.
